World Land speed record holder to take part in GFSC2012

Andy Green is the current holder of the World Land speed record, and the first person to break the sound barrier on land. On 25 September 1997 in ThrustSSC he beat the previous record in Black Rock Desert, USA, reaching a speed of 714.144 mph (1149.30 km/h). On October 15, 1997, exactly 50 years and 1 day after the sound barrier was broken in aerial flight by Chuck Yeager, Andy Green reached 763.035 mph (1227.99 km/h), the first supersonic record (Mach 1.016). His call sign was "Dead Dog".
Andy is now working with Richard Noble again on their new record attempt to break the 1,000 mph mark with Bloodhound SSC

UFO Pilot joins GFSC

Dave Rawlins

Spectators at the Paralympic Opening Ceremony had an ‘out of this world’ spectacular treat thanks to Dave and the modified Tecnam twin he was flying.

Wounded Afghanistan veteran Dave will now be helping to fly around our world, in the Global Flight Sim Challenge.

Last RAF Pilot to fly a Harrier will take part in the GFSC

Air Commodore Gary Waterfall, CBE RAF

With 3,500 hours over an operational background including flying Harriers from HMS Invincible, and three display seasons with the Red Arrows under his belt, Air Commodore Gary Waterfall is looking forward to flying the PA28 Simulator for Aerobility.

Later this year he’ll be taking command of the Typhoon Force at RAF Coningsby, but the hand rudder control in our simulator may still be a challenge!

Aerobility Patron, MP and PPL

Gerald Howarth MP

Gerald is the MP for Aldershot, Chairman of the all-party RAF Group, officer of the Parliamentary Aerospace Group, Trustee of the Vulcan to the Sky Trust, President of the Air Display Association, and Private Pilot.

In addition to this impressive list of interests, Gerald and wife Lizzie are enthusiastic Aerobility Patrons, devoting much time and energy to our charity. Gerald was keen to get his name down as a GFSC pilot as soon as he heard about the Challenge.

NATS CEO, GFSC

Richard Deakin

Richard has already been very busy with fundraising for Aerobility. This has been both personally, and as CEO of NATS, where he was able to make Aerobility the charity of the year 2012.

The team of volunteer air traffic controllers on hand for the GFSC will doubtless help to make Richard’s flight as smooth as possible.

Britain’s Most Disabled Pilot

Nathan Doidge

When Aerobility’s Nathan recently passed his PPL Skill Test he became the most disabled pilot ever to qualify in the UK. The simulator really proves its worth with disabled students like Nathan, who can get used to the aircraft physical environment without the expense of actual flight.

Cerebral palsy has put a number of obstacles in his way; on the ground, Nathan is still disabled, but in the air, he’s a pilot.

Welcome to the GFSC!

Chief of the Air Staff

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton RAF

With a service background on Jaguar and Tornado, and later deep involvement in the Typhoon, Sir Stephen knows a thing or two about flying.

Keeping his feet firmly on the ground, he’ll soon be flying our simulator in the GFSC.

Round the world balloon flight pilot signs up to be the pilot who will finish our record attempt!

Brian Jones, who flew the Breitling Orbiter around the world, has today signed up to be the person who pilots our world record attempt to the finish line.

He sent us this today...

“Crossing the finish line to complete the first round the world flight in a balloon was probably the most significant moment in my life. The end of the flight brought a new beginning for me in a variety of ways – all good.
For this reason, the opportunity to once again fly across the finish line at the end of a second round the world flight will be another great moment. Of course this latter flight will be slightly shorter; around 19 days and 18 hours shorter to be precise, and will be conducted in the rather more comfortable environment of the Aerobility flight simulator at Blackbushe airport. Nevertheless, it should create a new world record and will be a new beginning for Aerobility to dramatically improve their disabled pilot flight training, with the addition of this PA28 flight simulator, and the funds to operate it for at least the next five years.

The final landing at Blackbushe will be in stark contrast to that of my balloon in the Egyptian desert back in 1999, where there was no one to witness it. I hope I get it right!”
